Lawrence Preston AKA The Groove Master Tells YOU How to Survive a Unsuccessful Date Night

Other than having an incredible fashion sense that anyone would aspire to have (seriously, look at that shirt?!) Guitarist and Vocalist Lawrence Preston has been making moves (groovy ones of course) in his career with a brand new single Stood Up. Initially, your first thoughts may be to disregard such a ‘outdated’ genre, but you will be pleasantly surprised at the outcome of this one.

So, how does it sound?

When a budding musician makes an attempt to revive a genre which hasn’t been mainstream since the late 1980’s, it’s a very difficult thing to do, but Lawrence seems to incorporate ‘R&B’ codes and conventions that could be heard in tracks created by the likes of R Kelly, and Usher.

The track begins with what can only be described as atmosphere, clearly indicating that the track is going to tell a story (like a radio drama, just less boring…). However, incredibly well mixed bongo’s appear over the top of the commotion as if Jack Contanzo himself was in the room. The introduction overall is an excellent foundation of what is to come.

Following the introduction, the first verse and chorus are fairly conventional, but again, are very well mixed. Moreover, the guitar is incredibly important within a Funk track, as it is the life and soul of the ‘sound’, and Preston really captures this essence with a resounding tone that brings the track to life.

Overall, the track continues to impress as it draws to a close by showing more of Preston’s incredibly talented skills on the guitar, bass and vocals. The overall story told within the vocals also draws to a close, which if listened to closely takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

“Stood Up” shows Lawrence Preston as being not just a consummate smooth soul singer at the peak of his powers but as an artist for fans of 70s disco and funk, 80s stars like Rick James and Maze and for those wanting to hear real musicianship and ego-free musical fusion.

Why not have a listen for yourself? Get your rollerblades on an get down to the discotheque!

CHOLESTEROL JONES: ‘SATAN’S IN HEAVEN’

The story behind Cholesterol’s new single ‘Satan’s in Heaven’, which is taken from the EP of the same name is about the election of Donald Trump – fans of the great leader may want to look away now!

A is a jaunty gospel/country singalong that catches your attention and kidnaps it indefinitely – a hymn to idiocy, if you will.  The accompanying video is an artistic triumph, the perfect mixture of day glow laughs and acerbic criticism.

You can watch the video here:

Cholesterol was born on a US army base in Bavaria before moving to Boston, where he spent his formative years. After a period of twenty years living in New York City, he now splits his time between London, Boston and Cape Cod, his observations of the world around him keener than ever!

Dance, Dance To The Sounds Of The 80s!

Silver Jack w-Hat 11 _3500.jpg

Adonis had me from the moment My Different Lover first note reached my ears. Right from the get go, it’s an upbeat, joyous throwback to the glory days of pop in the 1980s, and any fans of Michael Jackson should check it out right away. It’s all there and as satisfying as ever, from gated reverbs to warm analogue synths, Adonis’s musical knowledge and ability is clear and undeniable.

Listen to My Different Lover here: https://www.reverbnation.com/adonis83

My Different Lover focuses on the spiritual love between two people, rather than lust. Taking influence from classic Motown and soul, the exhilarating production is enlivened by Adonis’ bass playing and multi-layered keyboards and vocals.

Adonis is not only a songwriter though and his experience with music is clear when listening to his work. Over the years he has worked as a co-writer, a producer and an arranger and it is now that all this has come together to create something that is truly special.

Julia Mascetti – An Intelligently Dark Lullaby

Julia_Greenwich6.jpg

It’s not often that a collection of songs captures the imagination in a way that is both innovative, and steeped in history, but this is exactly what Julia Mascetti has achieved with her new EP – In Distance, Everything is Poetry.

Growing up in the UK, Julia was raised on a solid diet of English folk music and storytelling, but took to the harp after relocating to Tokyo to live with her boyfriend. It was at this point that her new passion for the harp was born, and inevitably, the cross pollination of her influences began.

Her lead track In Bloom is a haunting, crawling mish-mash of sound and emotion, driven by a dreamlike, picked harp that weaves in and out of subtle, tasteful sonic details that decorate the production of the track. It is this attention to detail that gives the track its brooding, dream like atmosphere, providing the perfect platform for Julia’s storytelling to really shine.

If you’re a fan of Joanna Newsom, Nick Cave or Kate Bush, Julia’s new EP will not disappoint. Check out a live version of In Bloom here and be sure to pick up In Distance, Everything is Poetry on the 10th of November!

Modiwo’s Guide to Music, Life and Beyond

Confounding expectations, Modiwo have emerged from the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains to become one of the country’s breakout musical success stories, whilst also giving their time to support charity projects around the world. Initially forming in order to provide entertainment for local orphanages and retirement projects, demand for the band’s music grew to such a scale that they agreed to become a band in their own right.

With their diverse backgrounds from Romania, Ukraine, Moldova and Hungary, their completely unique and captivating dream-like pop sound is a clear example of the band working together in harmony to create a blissfully uplifting track that fills the listener with positivity and warmth.

The video to Never Give Up can be watched here:

After taking over their home countries with their music, they have also started getting involved with the charity Fruit Fusion, which offers audiences attending gigs to pay with fruit instead of money, which then gets donated to local orphanages, in conjunction with The Bureau of Children’s’ Rights Protection. An average show can deliver up to 700kg of fruit to those most deserving. Modiwo carry this living ethos through to their own lifestyles and into their music, using their music as a form of relaxation therapy. Their positive and uplifting vibes can be clearly felt through their new track.

The Fast And The Furiously Skilled: Antonio Domingos Is Just New Entry Into Record Breaking Success.

piano 1

The world is a wonderfully strange place when it comes to talent and skills. And now Antonio Domingos is part of a long list of world record holders and breakers.

Antonio has found great success in pushing himself to best of his abilities and is always progressing further. He has a YouTube channel named ‘Extreme Piano Channel’. in which he posts his various pieces showcasing his immense speed and endurance.

Antonio holds the world record title for  ‘Most Piano Key hits in one minute’. The pianist played the key B7, 824 times in 60 seconds, which seems humanly impossible, hitting more than 13 hits a second. this brilliant mind has studied and worked hard for many years, and has rightfully been handed this title.

Other musicians that hold a world record for speed and endurance include Nirvana Bista of Mussoorie in India, which he achieved in May of 2015. He performed ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ in the tempo of 1600, which seems physically impossible, and through the footage, seems almost demonic.

However on the other side of the musical map, a title held by artist ‘No Clue’, aka Ricky Raphel Brown, is ‘worlds official fastest rap MC’, in which he rapped 723 syllables in 51.27 seconds, which is 14.1 syllables per second.

Brian Eno’s Great Hope for the Future of Classical Music Releases New Album

Receiving a commendation from one of the Godfathers of the experimental music scene would be enough for many artists, but Belle Chen, an Australian/Taiwanese pianist is continuing to push the boundaries of both electronic sound and classical music.

Where as many of us will go on holiday and take a few photos and buy a keyring that breaks with a week of getting back home, Belle has used her travelling experience to influence her experimental sound, picking up sounds and influences from the people and places she has visited. Her latest album has seen her soaking up the heart of Paris, marrying it with her own emotions and creating a deeply affecting collection of sound collages that is quite unlike anything you would expect from either traditional classical or futuristic electronic fields.

Her live work is just as cutting-edge, seeing Belle playing piano as well as manipulating and performing something akin to open-heart surgery on the instrument to create completely unique sounds, all the while using her Ableton Live set-up to add further textures to the experience. Belle will be playing live at London’s Bloomsbury Festival on 18th and 21st of October, alongside a live VJ and light-show

Angus & Julia Stone and their SNOW in the middle of summer.

This is not a drill! Snow alert! And yes, I am aware that we are just coming into August, it’s still summer but it’s true – it’s time for some SNOW. But don’t worry, there is no actual cold substance involved in this! It’s a name of a brand new single performed by Australian siblings  – Angus & Julia Stone.

Angus and Julia, born and raised on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, grew up around musical talent, their parents, who taught them music at home, used to have their own folk band.

Both siblings play instruments and both are amazing song writers, they combined their incredible talents in  2006.Their success came quickly because of the magic of their music. The duo became famous worldwide, and many publishing companies and agencies showed interest in the brother-sister indie folk group.
So far, they’ve released three studio albums and won several ARIA Awards, including Album Of The Year.
Now, after a long break, they are coming back with a fresh album, also called Snow. The forthcoming album will be out later this year, on the 15th of September.
The leading single of the album is such a dreamy track but to be honest, it doesn’t have a lot to do with the actual snow apart from one line “ Blanket on my back, I’m cold, I’m cold again. Smile in the snow, tryna find something to say”. Well that… and if you fancy being out in the snow while you are listening to it, but I don’t think this can happen anytime soon!
The song seems to be about a relationship, or what is left of it. The ending is coming and the girl is wondering why the person won’t stay.
The duo’s harmony and the technique of delivering are superb, and their voices absolutely exquisite!
“Snow” makes you feel calm and you can almost imagine yourself facing the sun, wind in your hair and the slight curve of your smile…. Do yourself a favour and listen to this lovely song!
You can also find Angus & Julia here:
Let me know in the comment section if you’ve heard about this Aussie duo before, and how you like their song! Also, would you like to see a review of their album once it’s out? Share your thoughts!
Until next time! x
